Transforming legacy e-learning into a scalable, modern platform

Business Need

To consolidate fragmented educational products into a single, scalable, and maintainable cloud-based platform that could support interactive learning experiences, improve delivery reliability, and reduce technical debt — all while overcoming previous failed implementations, siloed knowledge, and cultural challenges around project completion.

Challenges

Legacy codebase: The original app was a poorly upgraded Next.js v9 project with unmaintained and unreliable test coverage. Fragmented architecture: Multiple disconnected products and tools needed to be unified into a single, cohesive platform.

Solution

Built a strong, cohesive team: Gradually onboarded a 10-person cross-functional team (developers, QA, leads) from Oct 2023 to Feb 2024. Replaced underperforming vendor with a reliable Cresteo  team.
Established a collaborative culture: Cross-team work with internal Infobase staff and external contractors from other regions.
